If you live in the state of Kentucky and are disabled you may find it more challenging to earn a living. This makes getting the bills paid each month more difficult. The good news is that there are grants for disabled in Kentucky that will help ensure your basic needs are being met. The grants will help provide you with everything from food and clothing, to getting your rent and utility bills paid.

Grants, unlike loans, never have to be paid back. Therefore, you can accept them and not have the stress of worrying about interest and having to pay them back. They are gifts that are given to people in the community to help them through financial difficulty. You can apply for as many programs as you feel you are qualified for.

Grants for Disabled in Kentucky

Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program – This program is similar to the TANF programs in other states. It’s a federally funded program that provides grants for disabled in Kentucky who meet the low income requirements. Those who are approved will receive a monthly cash grant that can be used on a variety of living expenses, such as housing, food, clothing, transportation, etc. In order to qualify, you have to have at least one minor child you are caring for. The maximum length you can receive the cash grants is 60 months. The amount you receive depends on how many dependents are in your household.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – If you need help obtaining food each month you may qualify for help through SNAP. Formerly known as food stamps, the program provides those who qualify with a debit card where a grant is added each month. You can then use the debit card to pay for your groceries at the store or farmers market. The amount you receive depends on how many people are in your household. You do have to be a legal citizen to qualify, and meet the low asset requirements. They will provide immediate assistance if you have a crisis or emergency need for food.

If you are approved, the program will provide the grant directly to the utility provider and your bill will be credited. To qualify, you have to meet the low income requirements, be a legal resident of the country, and be the person responsible for paying the bill. This program will also provide you with crisis assistance if your heat may be disconnected.

They have several options to help people, including a voucher program that will pay your rent, a public housing option that will give you a free government-owned unit to live in, and they will help home buyers avoid foreclosure. Additionally, if you want to reduce your monthly utility bills they will provide free weatherization services.

Catholic Charities – With locations around the country, this religiously-affiliated organization aims to help people in a variety of ways. They will help people avoid homelessness, obtain food, and get help during crisis situations. Contact the location closest to you to apply for assistance.
